Govalle Go

GOVALLE GO offers 4,900-square-feet of industrial loft workspace in the rapidly evolving Govalle neighborhood of East Austin. This historically diverse and vibrant community is now Austin’s foremost creative district, where studios, galleries, bars, cafes, and food trucks abound – providing a playful and relaxed environment for East Austin’s thriving local startup culture.

The double-height loft space is flexible and customizable, offering opportunities for open, collaborative work spaces as well as private offices and conference rooms. The industrial quality is emphasized by fully exposing the building’s structure on the interior, along with massive glass windows providing plenty of natural light. Covered parking and bike storage are provided, as well as designated space for car-sharing users and B-cycle rentals nearby.

Working with an extremely narrow site and height restrictions, an innovative structural solution (developed in collaboration with Arup) made the design possible. Rather than a traditional cantilever that would require thicker floors and more steel, the main floor structure is hung from a tapered steel frame – allowing a 45% reduction of steel and thinner slabs for more clear height and a dramatic exposed structural frame highlighting unique connection details.
