Skybridge Condominiums
The Skybridge Condominiums is a 120-unit residential development located in South Austin. The design creates a large shared green space by restricting the building to a thin band on the perimeter of the site. This band closely follows the sloping site, cantilevering over pedestrian and vehicular pathways. Furthermore, the geometry of the band provides opportunities for unconventional layouts while creating multiple communal exterior spaces.
This arrangement forms two circulation loops on the interior and exterior perimeters of the building, establishing a large open public space in the center of the site. The project creates a private sanctuary for the residents with opportunities for shared activities in the open green spaces.
Each condominium is arranged as a town-house; two stories of living space over a garage, with each unit being self-contained horizontally. The site’s geometry requires a broad variety of floor plans to accommodate various conditions, as well as to serve a large spectrum of residents by providing both large and smaller units.
Units are either walk-up studios which cantilever over roads and walkways, corner units which take advantage of views in multiple directions, or accessible ground floor studios. Each unit has a large deck and full-height glass doors and windows, which maintains a strong connection to the shared outdoor space.
